The concept of smart cities is increasingly important in today’s world. These cities use information and communication technology (ICT) to improve the quality of life of their residents, optimise the management of resources and foster sustainability.
Electric mobility has an essential role in this context, in so far as it offers a cleaner and more eco-friendly alternative to traditional transport based on fossil fuels. This option has huge potential to contribute to improving our well-being, in perfect harmony with the energy transformation and the efficient use of available resources on our planet.

How can we achieve a smart city through mobility?

Work is being carried out to promote four basic strategies to achieve smart mobility: getting around on foot, by bicycle, on public transport or through electromobility. The first of these entails creating more pedestrian areas and making it easier to get around on foot; the second, promoting journeys by bike as a convenient, quick and safe option; the third, improving urban public transport and access to it, and finally, fostering the use of non-polluting vehicles for personal mobility.

The role of electromobility in smart cities

Electromobility has a crucial part to play in the transformation towards smarter and more sustainable cities. The introduction of electric vehicles (EV) and the charging station infrastructure associated with them helps reduce air pollution and our reliance on fossil fuels.
Smart cities offer smart ways to make electric vehicles part of the electric network. Charging points can be managed efficiently to balance the demand for energy. In addition, the implementation of electric public transport systems not only helps cut emissions, but also improves urban mobility.
Electromobility also has a positive impact on air quality, reduces noise pollution and improves the health of local residents.

Endolla, supporting the Barcelona of the future

Endolla is one of the main strategies for sustainably supporting people in the transition towards electric vehicles and fostering innovation projects that contribute to the transformation of Barcelona.
BSM is carrying out various innovation pilot projects to foster the development of electromobility in the city. One challenge we are currently working on is planning vehicle recharging in the BSM car park network, taking advantage of off-peak energy demand times to achieve smarter and more efficient energy management.
In addition, thanks to interoperability with other electric mobility providers, we’re bringing the Endolla network closer to people, making it easier to access recharging points without having to download a new application.

We’re moving towards a more sustainable future, where innovation and technology come together to create smarter and more liveable urban environments.
