Barcelona is promoting mopeds with grants of up to 600 euros

Ajuntament de Barcelona has launched a new grant scheme aimed at accelerating the transition to more sustainable mobility by replacing combustion-engine mopeds with electric models. This initiative is part of the Climate Plan 2030, the city’s roadmap to lower emissions and improve air quality.
The programme is offering a direct grant of up to 600 euros per vehicle with the goal of facilitating the shift to zero-emissions alternatives and gradually updating the current moped fleet, a significant segment in everyday mobility in Barcelona and therefore a strategic target for urban decarbonisation.

Barcelona is boosting its commitment to electric mobility

In the long term, the measure is part of an ambitious plan that seeks to work towards a 100% electric moped fleet by 2030 to help reduce polluting emissions by thousands of tonnes every year.
Through these types of measures, Barcelona is reaffirming its commitment to a cleaner, quieter and more sustainable mobility model, especially in ubiquitous vehicles such as mopeds.

Conditions and requirements: a clear, accessible grant

The grant is for people who purchase a new electric moped and meet one key condition: scrapping an old combustion-engine moped. This measure guarantees that the moped fleet will be updated effectively and keeps the most polluting vehicles off the roads.
Important: the grant is for electric mopeds purchased after 1 March 2026.
The grant application process has been considerably simplified and can be completed remotely via the Ajuntament de Barcelona official website.
All you have to do is submit the following documents:

  • Receipt for the purchase of the electric moped

  • Scrapping certificate for the old vehicle

This approach speeds up the paperwork and facilitates access to the grant.
Eligible mopeds that are eligible must be registered in Barcelona and meet the following technical requirements:

  • Category L1eB (mopeds up to 45 km/h)

  • Approximate minimum range between 40 and 60 km

  • 100% electric vehicle (zero emissions)

  • EU-approved

Impact on the city: fewer emissions and better air quality

Replacing combustion-engine mopeds has a direct impact on air quality and urban well-being. These vehicles are responsible for a significant share of the emissions of pollutants such as nitrogen oxide (NO₂) and suspended particles, as well as noise pollution in densely populated areas.
Through this grant scheme, City Council wants to encourage an inclusive transition by ensuring that the shift to electric is also affordable for groups with less spending power. This means that the measure has both an environmental and a social impact.
The initiative also contributes to achieving Europe’s air quality goals and reinforces Barcelona’s position as a leading city in sustainable mobility.

Endolla Barcelona: the infrastructure helping the transition

The support for electric vehicle purchases must be accompanied by solid, accessible charging infrastructure adapted to everyday use
At Endolla Barcelona, we’re working to offer an efficient, reliable, constantly growing public network of charging points to meet city residents’ real needs and facilitate the daily use of electric vehicles.
The combination of public grants and charging infrastructure is essential to consolidate the shift to a new model. That’s why we’re continuing to evolve to guarantee an electric mobility system that’s integrated into the city’s daily life.
At a key time for urban transformation, initiatives like this one, coupled with networks such as Endolla Barcelona, are contributing to delivering a cleaner, more efficient mobility model aligned with future environmental challenges.
