Financial subsidies have played a key role in driving the transition to electric mobility and facilitating access to cleaner, more sustainable transport. Thanks to these incentives, more and more citizens and companies have been able to acquire electric vehicles and install charging points, helping to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
These support policies are also essential for consolidating the shift towards a transport model that is less dependent on fossil fuels, to speed up decarbonisation and the fight against climate change.
In this article, we’ll be analysing the recent extension of this plan, its benefits and how to access it.
Extension of MOVES III: a new boost for the sector
The MOVES III programme is an initiative by the Spanish government to promote electric mobility through direct subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles and the installation of charging points.
To keep the momentum up in the transition to electric mobility, the Spanish government has extended the programme of incentives for electric mobility (MOVES III) until 31 December 2025. The measure, approved at the request of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), is retroactive since 1 January and guarantees support for all electric vehicle purchases or charging installations following the annulment of Royal Decree Law 9/24.
The programme, funded with European funds through the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), has been a success since its launch in 2021. The initial budget of 400 million euros has risen to reach 1.335 billion euros, already transferred to the autonomous communities.
The Council of Ministers has decided to bolster the programme further with a new allocation of 400 million euros, increasing the overall investment for MOVES III to 1.735 billion euros. In addition, the 15% discount on personal income tax (IRPF) has been re-established for the purchase of electric vehicles and the installation of charging infrastructures, further facilitating the adoption of this technology.
More incentives for the roll-out of electric mobility
These incentives come in addition to other government programmes such as MOVES Singulares, MOVES Flotas and MOVES Corredores, as well as the strategic project for the economic recovery and transformation of electric and connected vehicles (PERTE VEC), in total mobilising more than 5 billion euros in support of sustainable mobility.
How to access MOVES III subsidies?
To benefit from MOVES III subsidies, citizens, companies and public administrations must submit their applications here. Basic requisites for accessing incentives include:
- The purchase of a new electric vehicle or installation of a charging point.
- To apply within the period established for each autonomous community.
- To meet the established eligibility criteria for the programme.
The amounts of the subsidies may vary according to the type of vehicle and if the old vehicle is scrapped, reaching up to 7,000 euros for electric cars and 9,000 euros for vans.
Endolla Barcelona: a key network for the city going electric
With Endolla Barcelona and the support of MOVES III, more and more people are opting for zero-emissions transport and benefiting from an efficient and sustainable recharging system.
With these advances, Barcelona is leading by example in electric mobility and driving a greener urban model, committed to the future of the planet.
