If you drive an electric car you get a 75% discount on road tax, or IVTM. You will also be exempt from having to pay registration tax.
In addition you can apply for subsidies from the MOVES III Plan and get a grant of up to €9,000 to purchase a non-polluting vehicle.
• Advantages when driving and parking
If you use an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid, you can drive in the high-occupancy vehicle VAO lanes without a minimum number of occupants. You can also enjoy a 75% discount on toll charges when you show proof of having scrapped a vehicle that was more than 10 years old.
In Barcelona you have access to free parking in blue AREA parking places, respecting the regulated hours and maximum parking times. What's more, the cost of parking in the green AREA is 0.50 euros per hour instead of 2.75 - 4.25 per hour.
• Greater energy efficiency
Electric cars are highly efficient, and you can get the best out of them at all times.
The energy efficiency of this type of vehicle is around 75%, which means that a large part of the energy is used to drive the vehicle and a minimum amount is lost or transformed into another type of energy. ICE vehicles have an energy efficiency level of around 27%, as a large part of the energy is lost in the form of heat.
• Lower maintenance costs
Electric vehicles have fewer mechanical elements than ICE vehicles; for this reason they don’t wear out as quickly and require fewer maintenance checks than conventional vehicles.
• They help cut pollution
Because they run on an electric engine, they don’t emit polluting gases or particles. They also help to reduce noise pollution: as they don’t have a combustion engine, electric vehicles produce less noise and so promote a better quality of life, reducing the stress factor associated with noisy vehicles.
