Endolla Barcelona, the network of B:SM electric charging points, is taking part in a pilot project to charge electric machinery used for public works. Promoted by Barcelona City Council in collaboration with the companies responsible for the work and the corresponding machine manufacturers, the initiative will compare pollutant emissions and noise levels generated by electric machinery with those generated by conventional diesel units.

The project will be carried out during work to replace some drainage pipes in pavements. Work began last week and is being carried out in C/ Balmes (July) and then in Av. Esplugues (August). Each project will take five weeks and will consist of the same tasks, firstly carried out with electric machinery and then with diesel machinery, to gauge the measurements needed to make the corresponding comparison.

The electric machinery to be used will be charged at points in the Endolla Barcelona network. More precisely, accumulators will be connected which will then power the machinery chosen to carry out the pilot project. The machines are a digger, a dumper truck and a compactor. The intention is to charge the machinery at night and at lunch times.

The initiative makes Endolla Barcelona the first electric charging network in southern Europe to take part in a project of this type, broadening the possibilities of the service. To date, similar trials have only been conducted in Copenhagen, Vienna, Berlin, Stuttgart and Stockholm.
